At Hutchesons’ we recognise the importance of choosing the right school for your child, and to help you make an informed decision our annual Open Mornings, held in the autumn, are specifically designed to give an accurate overview of both campuses and insight into our strong academic and co-curricular programmes. When Should I Apply to Hutchesons'?
Hutchesons' welcomes pupils at all stages and a brief outline of entry points are provided below:
Your child should have turned four by the end of February for an August start.
.Between the preceding October and December, we will invite your child to the first part of an informal discussion and assessment at the Primary School at Kingarth St. The second part of this assessment will take place during the following January.
Upper Primary Entry
The Upper Primary years are a popular entry point for pupils joining Hutchesons’.
There are opportunities for entry in P5, P6 and P7. Applicants are invited to the Primary for an informal chat and tour, at a date prior to the year group entrance tests which are held in mid/late January.
Hutchesons' is a popular choice for the first year at Secondary. The Assessment Day will be held during mid to late January preceding the start of the academic year and children are required to sit an entrance test in Mathematics, English and verbal reasoning which lasts from 9.30am until 2.30pm. We provide lunch in the School dining room and senior pupils give children a tour of the school. Past examples of the English and Mathematics tests can be provided prior to the test if required.
Intermediate Entry - Lower Primary and Secondary
We welcome applications across year groups if spaces are available and subject to a successful interview/assessment and entrance test if required.
