Glasgow Speakers Competition

Congratulations to S4 pupil, Pragna Challapalli, who won the top prize at the Glasgow Speakers Club Schools Competition final in Glasgow City Chambers on December 4th.

On the night, Pragna spoke beautifully on her chosen topic – Individuality.

She began her speech with the arresting opening line ‘Individuality is like a red hunting cap’ and went on to pose questions about identity, warn of the dangers of conformity, and passionately encourage us all that ‘if we possess only one talent, it is the talent of being ourselves - the world needs each and every one of us.’

Despite being the youngest competitor of the evening, Pragna triumphed, and was awarded the Schools' Public Speaking trophy.

As the Chairman said when announcing her name, ‘Our winner, of course, has to be that most impressive individual – Pragna Challapalli!’

The Glasgow Speakers Club is committed to encouraging public speaking, particularly with young people, and has held an annual public speaking competition since 1956.

The English Department congratulates Pragna on her incredible achievement.
