Two senior pupils have been selected to represent Scotland at an international Karate tournament in Bulgaria next February.
S4’s Niamh Junner and S3’s Alex Marshall already have a clutch of gold medals between them and have competed across Europe. This week they were told their recent performances had secured them a spot in the 19 strong national squad.
Niamh and Alex, who are both members of the Shitokai Scotland karate club in Renfrew, will represent their country in their weight/age categories at the European Karate Federation Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships in Bulgaria.
Alex is already a GB champion – he won Gold in the male Kadet Kata category at the British International Open Karate Championships in September. He also currently holds the British Four Nations 12-13yrs title having won that in May this year.
In March Niamh won Gold in team Kumite at the Harasuto Cup in Poland and the following month she won Gold for U16 +54kg at the annual Scottish International Open in Edinburgh for the second time in succession.
Good luck to both pupils – a fantastic achievement!
