Congratulations to S6 pupil, Carter Cohen, who triumphed in the first heat of the Glasgow Bar Association’s Martin Lavery Cup.
The competition is designed to foster excellence in public speaking, with many pupils speaking for some eight minutes on a topic of their choice.
Carter spoke passionately about how, if we do not learn from history, we are condemned to repeat the mistakes of the past, making many insightful, sensitive observations about financial crises, war and the Holocaust.
He was highly praised by Garvey McArdle, chief judge from McArdle Solicitors, for his powerful delivery and thoughtful content.
Carter’s speech won him a place in the final, to be held at Glasgow Sheriff Court in March. Given that only six pupils progress to this final stage from all schools in the greater Glasgow area, this is a tremendous achievement.
