In 2007 Hutchesons' embarked on a 'friendly partnership with the Dr. NSAM English Medium High School in Nitte, near Karnataka in southern India.
The British Council-funded project enables staff to visit each others' schools and to learn about methods of teaching and assessment, and exam preparation, for example. The two schools are also involved in seven collaborative projects relating to Geography and Biology.
Staff and pupils visited Nitte in September 2009 and will host Indian staff and pupils at Hutchesons' in June 2010. Further visits took place by Hutchesons' pupils and staff to Nitte in November 2010 and March 2011.
Hutchesons' has also partnered with its almost namesake, Hutchings High School in Pune, India, the capital of the state of Maharashta and known for its many educational institutions.
Prompted by the Commonwealth Youth Games, which took place in Pune in 2008, local schools partnered a participating Commonwealth nation and studied its location, culture, customs and traditions, cuisine, language and history as part of their project - Hutchings is studying Scotland. The schools also interacted with the athletes and coaches from the various participating nations when they visited Pune during the Games.
