Our primary pupils learn in the grandeur of the 1911 building originally built for Hutchesons' Girls Grammar School. The new infant block, with its own library, assembly hall and playground, provides the perfect start for our youngest pupils.
At the secondary school, the innovative refurbishment of the Fotheringay church complex, with its state-of-the-art facilities for music and ICT, has won awards for its design. The 1994 sports centre has a multigym and two large halls; an astroturf hockey pitch and cricket pitch are nearby. With the recent addition of multi-use all-weather courts for tennis, netball and basketball, our sports facilities provide ample space for everyone. The distinguished scientific history of Hutchesons' was recognised in the 1990 opening of a new science block.
New customs have evolved into traditions at Hutchesons'. The primary school eagerly anticipates the musical productions, sports day and the P7 trip to Raasay. In the secondary school, the summer musical and art show are highlights, along with the talent contest, whole-school cross-country run, senior dance and all the other charity fund-raising events. These occasions contribute to the strong sense of community at Hutchesons'.
As technology evolves, so does Hutchesons'. We recognise the important role that information technology plays in education and provide ready access for pupils and staff to computers in classrooms, dedicated suites, libraries, and other common areas. Secondary pupils mine rich resources in the newly refurbished library and a brand-new library at the primary school will soon satisfy the younger pupils' thirst for knowledge and learning.
Tradition and innovation are the complementary strands that stand out when you visit Hutchesons' Grammar School, but all our buildings serve one purpose: to provide the best learning environment for our pupils.
