Extra-Curricular Activities for Primary Pupils

Pupils at the Primary School at Hutchesons' have many different lunchtime and after-school activities available to them.

Pupils can choose from clubs which include Internet & Computing, Drama, Chess, Spanish, Debating, Fantasy Football, Scottish Country Dancing, Scripture Union, Sign language, Mini-Bridge, Story Telling, Typing and Writing.

Forms elect representatives to the EcoSchools Committee and the Pupil Council, which meet twice a month.

In addition, the library is open most lunchtimes for children to read and borrow books.

Weaving Club 6From Primary 5 onwards, there are sports clubs for Football, Gymnastics, Badminton, Netball, Hockey, Tag Rugby, Running and Table-tennis.

All pupils belong to a House - Argyll, Lochiel, Montrose or Stewart - and have their own dedicated 'House' lunchtime, when they can enjoy activities with pupils from P1 to P7.

ChoirMusic  plays a significant part in the extra-curricular life of the Primary School, at lunchtime and after school. Choirs, orchestras and string groups are arranged for different ages and levels of ability, and a wind band, guitar ensemble and ceilidh band all encourage and support the many pupils who enjoy singing and playing an instrument.

The Music department also holds rehearsals for auditions, competitions and music exams, and occasionally pupils take part in secondary school ensembles such as the Pipe Band and the Intermediate Wind Band.

Pupils are encouraged to take part in the many extra-curricular sporting activities, including inter-school Rugby and Hockey teams from P6 and the Running club based at the Secondary School which has nurtured Hutchesons' pupils as some of the very best cross-country runners in Scotland.
