A mini-Ceilidh in a P2 classroom!
Exploring and investigating using the outsided classrom as a stimulus. Pupils planted and created a sensory garden and learned Braille. They visited the optician and also the Chemistry department at the Secondary school where they learned how fireworks are made.
Pupils learn what life was like when gran was a girl. They compared and contrasted island and city life by exchaning a teddy bear with one from an island school. They set up a blog to download photos and to follow the bears' adventures. They invited their grannies (and grandpas to an afternoon of music and drama based on the life of Katie Morag and they even met Mairi Hedderwick, Katie Morag's creator, who came to school to read to them.
The best bit of P2 was when my friend Abby with her bright red hair was Katie Morag!
They discovered amazing facts about ladybirds, worms, spiders and bees. They set up a wormery, watched the ants dig, studied caterpillars and watched them emerge from their chrysalis. They visited Lochwinnoch, where they dipped in ponds and hunted for minibeasts and birds.
I loved letting the butterflies go and looking at the butterflies and drawing the spider.
