On my first day of Primary seven I was really nervous because I was going to be one of the big people I had looked up to for six years. As the first week ended I had completely settled in.
For our pupils, an action-packed Primary Seven year is the culmination of their time at Kingarth Street. They are the "big fish" and, as such, are given more responsibility to think and act for themselves, setting an example to the younger pupils. They are also preparing for their transition to the Secondary School and visit Beaton Road on a number of occasions to familiarise themselves with their new environment.
In the classroom, pupils continue to be set for maths and are taught by specialist teachers for art and craft, music, PE, Modern Languages and ICT. They are encouraged to become enthusiastic, independent readers and to express themselves in the spoken and written word with eloquence and imagination. They experiment with electricity, explore the solar system and beyond, journey along the River Rhone, discover what it is like to live in India, step back in time to the fifties, sixties and seventies and marvel at heroic tales from Ancient Greece.
Our year has been so busy with work, but incredible fun too!
All this hard work is punctuated with three main highlights. The Primary Seven Dance is held in December. It is an evening full of music, Scottish dancing and great fun. Things take a thespian turn in March when the pupils perform their show, an extravaganza of acting, singing and dancing.
For most P7 pupils theresidential expedition to an outdoor centre, where they participate in a range of activities such as sailing, kayaking, climbing, abseiling and hill-walking, is a perfect, if exhausting, way to end their Primary School lives at Kingarth Street.
1960s Day
One of the fantastic things we did in Primary Seven was our 1960s day. It was great. The pupils dressed up as glamorous celebrities. Everyone enjoyed it
Book Week
I really enjoyed reading to the Primary Ones and would love to do it again.
I wrote a story about my two dogs for my Primary One partner. Apparently he reads it most nights!
Primary Seven Dance
The hall looked like a dream with twinkling lights everywhere. We were all exhausted at the end but it was a fabulous night.
Primary Seven Show
It was fantastic. I simply loved being in the chorus
