Computing Studies/ICT

The ICT Department aims both to stimulate pupils' interest, curiosity and enjoyment of computing as an academic and scientific field of study, equipping them with the knowledge to pursue a personal interest in computing, and also to equip pupils with the skills that underpin their learning across the curriculum and in their future employment.

Air-conditioned classrooms are fully equipped with interactive whiteboards and multi-media facilities which the department takes full advantage of in classes from S1 to S6.

In a constantly changing field, a regular review of the ICT curriculum ensures that the ICT experienced from our primary department through to S6 is progressive and keeps pace with latest developments and innovations, with courses currently giving pupils opportunities in diverse areas such as robotics, in the creation of mini-networks and in web design. The ICT department works with other departments to ensure that pupils' IT skills complement the development of their skills in independent learning across all of their subjects.

S1 and S2

Pupils study computing for 1 hour per week in S1 and S2.

In an exciting and fast moving field, the department focuses primarily in S1 and in S2 on the task of building on pupils' constantly changing core skills and tying in what they know and can do to new developments in ICT.

Currently the S1 and S2 courses covers the following topics: Internet Email;  Word Processing;  Spreadsheets; Electronic Presentation; Automated Systems and Robotics; Databases; Graphics; ICT ‘Crocodile' programming; Video editing.

Pupils are further taught to develop their skills through understanding terminology and current trends; safety issues in relation to the Internet and Email as well as the skills required to use  features of  GPPs and problem solving by learning to analyse, implement, test and evaluate.
