Economics and Business

The Economics and Business Department at Hutchesons' offers a range of courses in Economics, Business Management and Accounting at various stages throughout the Secondary School.

JEFF6497Economics is the academic study of scarce resources and how they are distributed as well as the social, financial and political implications that arise from this.

Business Management is the study of what businesses do, how they do it and how they are organised.

Either of these two courses can be chosen as an option at S3 for examination at Intermediate 2 in S4.

A significant number choose to take Economics, Business Management or Accounting in S6 as a ‘Crash' Higher as their post-school options become clearer, or, if they have taken Economics or Business Management, they take a post-Higher qualification (currently A Level). An S4 field trip to London encourages pupils to see economics and business in practice through a variety of institutions.
