A range of methodologies are used inside and outside the classroom to deliver our courses, using interactive whiteboards, computer suites, visits abroad and closer to home as well as visiting speakers, to bring political issues alive.
Pupils study Modern Studies for 1 hour per week in S2.
All pupils in S2 have the opportunity to study Modern Studies for the first time. The key theme is ‘Citizenship', ensuring that all pupils at the end of S2 are equipped with tools to engage politically with the adult world and to give those who will go further a taste of what they will learn in depth later. The topics covered in the course of the S2 year are: Representation and participation in a democracy; Rights and responsibilities of citizens; Devolved powers in Scotland; Politics in the USA; Politics and Society in China.
