Hutchesons' is one of very few schools in the country to have a Psychology Department. The option of studying Psychology is of benefit to pupils who may be interested in studying the subject at university, and those who wish to study related disciplines such as Philosophy, Linguistics, Law, and Cognitive Science. Higher Psychology is available as an S6 Higher and is completed in one year.
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. In studying Psychology, students at Hutchesons' can learn about many of the social and psychological processes which affect us all in our everyday lives such as stress, prejudice, mental illness and the use of memory.
The Psychology Department believes in an active and varied learning experience, and provides opportunities for students to run or take part in psychology experiments and demonstrations and to do independent research. Visiting speakers from universities also add to the diversity of the classes.
