Music at Hutchesons'

The Music Department offers a wide range of performance opportunities for singers and instrumentalists in primary and secondary classes, which extends far beyond the classroom and core curriculum.

A programme of major concerts, smaller-scale performance evenings and ambitious school productions (in collaboration with the drama department) present a busy platform to showcase the school's comprehensive range of ensembles, choirs and prodigious musical talent.

The secondary school supports two choirs - a recently established S1/S2 choir, and a senior choir that contributes to school concerts, the annual Founders' Day service in Glasgow Cathedral, and other major events throughout the school calendar.

The school orchestras performs regularly, and plays an essential role in the annual summer term production. Instrumentalists also benefit from a range of string and wind ensembles, concert and jazz bands, and a specialised Baroque ensemble.

Hutchesons' Choral Society - in which pupils are also encouraged to participate - enables the wider community to become involved in the active musical life of the school.
