It makes you feel angry, sad and horrified as you follow one innocent boy's living nightmare as he is forced into survivinh hideous torture and cruelty in Guantanamo Bay. It shows you the worst of people but it also shows you how kind people can be, finding friendship in strange forms! CS Age 12

Some important information - this novel is narrated by death. It's a small story, about: a girl; an accordionist; some fanatical Germans; a Jewish fist fighter; and quite a lot of thievery. Another thing you should know - death will visit the book thief three times.
REVIEW: A deep heart-wrenching tale that reveals the life of an ordinary girl's life during the war. It has powerful messages about friendship, hints of dark danger but it is simply a marvellous book. Don't be daunted by its length - it disappears leaving you craving more... CS Age 12
