Sport at Hutchesons'

A varied well-coached programme of sport is an integral element of a Hutchesons' education. All pupils up to S5 enjoy physical education as part of the curriculum under the leadership of outstanding sportsmen and women, some of whom are internationalists and Olympians themselves.

More than 400 pupils participate in team sport each week, many of them using the floodlit sports stadium at the Beaton Road site opened in 2009. Comprising an all-weather Hockey pitch and international-standard 400m Athletics track, the Stadium is well-used by School and community groups.

11 Jubilant!Major sports are rugby for boys and hockey for girls until Easter, with sports such as boys' hockey, cricket, football, netball, athletics, rowing, tennis, golf and cross-country at various times throughout the year. Karate, curling, volleyball, badminton, aerobics and rock climbing are other alternatives.

The standard of rugby and hockey is very high, and at least 14 rugby teams and 18 hockey teams play every Saturday morning in matches against other schools throughout Scotland. Our 1st XV and 1st XI are among the best teams in the country, regularly reaching the final stages of national competitions, and many pupils are selected to represent their country at school level.
