Understanding that the most effective intervention in supporting Additional Educational Needs is early intervention, the Secondary department follows the work that has been done in the Primary department at Hutchesons' and other primaries from which our pupils are drawn, to integrate all pupils and offer access to the full secondary curriculum. Because of this, the support for learning policy is guided by two key principles:
First, all pupils at Hutchesons' Grammar School have particular educational needs and it is the responsibility of every teacher to take these into account in the planning and delivery of each lesson and in other relevant contexts in which learning takes place.
Second, the aim of the support for learning policy is to bring all pupils to the point where they are able to participate profitably in the mainstream teaching and learning that takes place within the school and in preparation for the world after school
We welcome the diversity of our pupils as a strength, treat all members of our school community with respect and ensure that the diversity of our pupil body does not become a barrier to learning and achievement for individual pupils.
