Despite the weather-related chaos that saw the City Halls concert in which they were due to have performed postponed, our friends from the Hans-Sachs Gymnasium in Nürnberg seemed to enjoy their all too brief time with us.
As worsening road conditions forced the closure of School on Tuesday, resourceful S6 pupils put on an impromptu ceilidh in the Dining Room. The German pupils were given a crash course on the "Dashing White Sergeant" and "Strip the Willow", led by Matthew Henson on pipes.
Mr Stewart, our unflappable catering manager, rustled up trays of sandwiches, juice and coffee, and we had an hour of fun and conversation. Silver Fox coaches came up trumps by providing a bus to take the group to the airport, when alternative transport became unavailable. Lots of photos were taken, contacts exchanged and we are now loooking at how we can reschedule the concert in Spring.
"The hospitality of our host parents was much appreciated by Annette Eisenmann and her students," says Depute Rector Jim McDougall, "and is typical of the best of the Hutchie spirit that always seems to rise to the occasion at such times."
