Sports Results Round-Up

Monday 26th February - Weekend Sport Review

A glorious weekend saw the School put out 24 Hockey and Rugby teams against four different schools, one district tournament and one club side. First up on Friday after school, the boys' hockey 1st XI took on invitational select side, the Capercaillies, at Clydesdale and ran them close, losing out 2-1 to a team littered with internationals including Olympian and 1st XI coach, Graham Dunlop.

Saturday morning saw the girls' hockey teams playing and hosting Ayshire sides in the shape of Wellington School and Kilwinning Academy, with the S3A squad taking part in the West District festival, losing narrowly in the final to High School. Coach Sheila Crichton highlighted the team's excellent performances during the day and paid particular praise to the defensive efforts of Nicola Wilde and the good work shown by Kirsty Forgie in attack.

Notable results were recorded by the 4th XI who overcame Kilwinning 1st XI 4-1 and S1A who squeezed out Wellington 1-0.

Rugby against DalriadaThe Boys' Rugby teams took on Dalriada from Ireland alongside the ever impressive George Watson's College and, although results went the way of the Edinburgh school in most games, the S1 squad performed extremely well, with the A team narrowly losing 8-9, and the B squad recording a 10-6 victory at Auldhouse.

In Edinburgh, the U16 team had a fantastic match against their Edinburgh counterparts and a number of experimental positional changes looked promising. Watson's won eventually 31-19.  Our Irish opposition played the S2 and S3A teams from Hutchesons'. Both matches were competitive and it was good to welcome back this school who always enjoy their visits and provide a challenging experience for our boys, as their development laws are slightly different.

This week sees the annual Hutchesons' Rugby and Hockey Sevens on Wednesday 2 March (afternoon) at Auldhouse, Bellahouston and Clydesdale. The event features 16 different schools from across the country and is always a highlight of the season. The Boys Hockey starts at 1.00pm, Girls Hockey at 1:30pm and Rugby starts at 2.00pm.
