Biggars Music Competition 2010-2011

Biggars Music Competition 2011S4 pupil Hebba Benyaghla won the Biggars Trophy for the second consecutive year last night, delighting the audience with her performance of Debussy's 'Jardin sous la pluie'. Hebba recently learned that she gained the highest mark in the UK in her ABRSM Grade8 Piano exam.

Anna Heywood [S2] won the Grades 4-5 category, and the flute duo of Ewan Gardner [S6] and Mei Lin Lee [S6] the open ensemble class.

Biggars Music Competition 2011Francis Cummings, Director of Music at St Mary's Music School, Edinburgh, had the difficult job of guest adjudicator. He also conducted the School Sinfonia in a performance of 'Titanic: a suite from the motion picture soundtrack', by James Horner, arr. John Moss. Mr Cummings was a founding member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He held teaching posts at the University of Huddersfield, University of Lancaster and Chetham's School of Music before taking up his current post in 2007.
