Hutchesons' Grammar School has been awarded the Tennis Scotland School of the Year Award for 2010.
"Hutchesons' Grammar School is delighted to receive this prestigious award from the SLTA," says Head of Tennis Sheila Lang, who captained the Ladies Tennis team at Hutchesons' as a pupil. "The accolade of being Tennis School of the Year is a great honour, and it is one which we are really delighted to accept for the second time in recent years.
"Last season was excellent for the tennis club. The boy's senior team was unlucky to fall at the last hurdle, failing narrowly to qualify for Finals day. The Under 15 team won their Scottish Championship and went on to play in the British Nationals.
"The girls however, went one step further. The senior team won the Scottish Championship for the first time in 34 years. Not only that, but the girls under 15 and under 13 also won their Scottish Championship making it a ‘Grand Slam' for the ladies."
Girls' Captain Heather Lang: "It was a fantastic effort from all the girls, and the Senior team really enjoyed their moment of glory. It is a shame the boys could not be with us, but they are strong and may do it this year. We as a School, would like to thank all the local clubs and coaches which help us out, and our own PE staff for all their support."![]()

George has been playing tennis since the age of 5 and has competed regionally and nationally on a regular basis during the last couple of years; he also plays for West of Scotland County. Currently playing within U11 and U12 age group categories, George is nationally ranked 4th and 23rd respectively. His dedication to training includes three squads a week (once the homework is done, of course!) and competitions every two to three weeks.
George is the current 12 and under Scottish Indoor Tennis Champion and was part of the Mini Davis Cup team which was victorious against England and Wales earlier this month.
