Based on L Frank Baum's best-selling story, 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz', 'The Wiz' was originally produced on Broadway in 1975 and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Set to music by Charlie Smalls in a mixture of rock, gospel and soul, 'The Wiz' wowed the audiences at Hutchesons' over three nights in November.
Valerie Alderson directed the show and Graeme Scott was music director. More than 90 pupils from S1 and S2 rehearsed at lunchtimes, after school and weekends for two months, alongside senior pupils who worked as stage crew and behind the scenes on lighting and sound.
