Medal Success in Physics Olympiad!

Physics Olympiad April 2011Three Hutchesons' pupils have been honoured with medals in the 2011 British Physics Olympiad, which attracts entries from the UK's top young physicists. S6 pupils Timothy Heelis and Scott Melville received Gold and Silver medals respectively.

Hamza Gangi received a Bronze medal for his Practical Project.

The examination-based competition has a dual purpose: to challenge and reward the best physicists in British schools and to select the UK Physics Team for competition at international level.

The Practical Project was introduced in 2007 in response to the decreasing amount of practical physics available to students in school. An interesting problem is posed, to be investigated using common household and school equipment. The project is written up in the style of an academic paper.
