The Hutchesons' Grammar School team (brothers David Wagner [S6] and Charles Wagner [S2] and teammate Kerr McEwen [S6]) finished third in the fifth annual British Schools Karting Championship in Milton Keynes.
The March event marked the culmination of a championship which was contested by more than 1,350 pupils in more than 450 teams, with schools from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all vying to become the British Schools Karting Champions of 2011. After winning the Scottish Regional Qualifying Event in Falkirk, the Hutchie boys won a place in the National Final, held on Daytona's challenging 1360m circuit.
"Kerr, Charles and I performed very well," said David Wagner, after the final. "From the races, we had very consistent finishes. However, we were slightly unlucky with the karts we got and could not quite take a race win that would have enabled us to retain the championship. We hope that the drivers in the Hutchesons' Kart Club will keep developing into fast racing drivers and will regain the British Title in 2012!"
