Primary Pupils enjoy Dance Workshop with Choreographer

P5 Dance ClassChoreographer Susanna Curtis ran dance workshops for P5 pupils at Kingarth Street in June. Born in Glasgow, but based in Nuremberg, Glasgow's twin city, Curtis draws inspiration from her trips between the two cities to create original danceworks.

As her son, Milo, had spent time in P5 this year, she was delighted to offer her expertise to his fellow pupils.

For 22 years, Curtis has been journeying between her birthplace, and the land where she carved out a home and career. ‘I travel to and from the cities at least three times a year,' she explains. ‘And I'm always fascinated by the encounters I make while travelling - conversations with fellow travellers whom I'll probably never see again; the fact that people often tell complete strangers more of their life history than people they see daily.'

Her latest piece, 'return2you' is a collaborative work between two installation artists, two Scottish dancers, two German dancers and Curtis herself. It is also inspired by social networking sites such as Facebook, and the wide range of information people choose to share with others.

Charlott at Kingarth StreetIn another link with Hans Sachs Gymnasium in Nuremberg, teacher Daniela Wagner visited Kingarth Street with her 5-year-old daughter, Charlott. They spent the morning with P2R, listening to stories which Superbär had written for the class in German. The class sang their "Gib mir Guave" song which Anne Jack had written for the Handa day and Charlott sang a German song.

Daniela Wagner is responsible for the links between Hutchesons' and Hans Sachs.
