Tuesday 21 June marked the end of four years of the Junior Duke Award Scheme at Kingarth Street. Offered at four levels - bronze, silver, gold and platinum, in primaries 4 to 7, the Scheme encourages primary pupils to complete challenges in several different disciplines.
The Junior Duke patron, Gordon Bulloch (C1993), visited Kingarth Street for the scheme's inaugural garden party to present certificates to the 32 Primary 7 children who have shown determination and self motivation in the completion of their Platinum level.
This was a record year, as only seven children had completed the final level in each of the past two years. Staff and children enjoyed a buffet lunch (in the Infant Hall rather than the garden, due to atrocious weather!) and after listening to Gordon's speech, were keen to get his autograph.
P7 pupil Heather Stewart is the first pupil to have completed all four levels of the award scheme and, impressively, was the first to complete each level during each year!
