While most other pupils were heading off to their holiday destinations at the end of June, six senior pupils travelled down to London to attend a conference entitled Dying For Life.
Each year the Global Student Forum highlights one of the Millennium Development Goals and this year Katie Barbour, Alison Eadie, Stephanie Kerr, Eleanor Lumley, Lena McCrae and Iain McDermott were finding out about the causes and effects of maternal mortality worldwide.
The conference, held in the Emmanuel Centre in the shadow of the Houses of Parliament, brought together 500 students from all over the country. A well-run, fast-paced event, it gave the students a plethora of details and a real insight into the fundamental causes of maternal health from a variety of expert speakers and specialists on the problems of specific countries such as Sierra Leone and Afghanistan.

It also invited the students to raise awareness of this major problem, which is the single biggest killer of 15-19 year old girls in the Developing World, something our pupils fully intend to do once school restarts.
