The library corridor and art department came to life at the end of last term, as pupils once again displayed their talent, skill and commitment in the Annual Art Show.
Amongst the work featured in the sixth year studio was a series of striking Advanced Higher jewellery pieces created by Jacqueline Gibson, Hannah Bryson, Fraser Hamilton, Jeannie Hyslop – Parsons and Iain Costello.
Hannah Pexton, Scott Hayworth, Jennifer Evans and Ayesha Ali who undertook the portfolio preparation course this year have secured places at Duncan of Jordanstone, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Glasgow School of Art respectively. Portfolio students undertake a term of life drawing at the Visual Arts Studio based at the Tramway to supplement their portfolio when making an application to art college.
Elsewhere drawings of cacti, mushrooms and still life reflect the range of drawing techniques and subject matter explored by pupils from S1 through to S4. In Design, pupils explore interesting solutions to lighting, chair design, jewellery and textiles.
The show was opened by Charles Jamieson, former pupil of Hutchesons’ Grammar and a successful contemporary artist, who commented on the variety and high standard of the work saying:
“It was a terrific show brim full of ideas and colour.”
