Gold medal recognition for Head of Maths

Mrs Fyfe at the Royal SocietyThe school has been delighted to learn that Mrs Fyfe of Hutchesons’ Mathematics Department has received a gold medal at the Royal Society, a fellowship of the world's most eminent scientists and the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.

The award was given at a reception for the British Mathematical Olympiad team at the Royal Society on Monday 26 September and came in recognition of the work Mrs Fyfe has done in Mathematics Education in the UK, especially in the area of mathematics enrichment for school pupils.

Particular reference was made to her three decades of work for Enterprising Mathematics in Scotland, including her endeavours setting up the Outreach programme when the Olympiad was held in Glasgow in 2002. Mrs Fyfe was also instrumental in the introduction of the UK Mathematics Trust ‘Team Maths Challenge’ and was the Director of the National Mathematics Summer School for more than 10 years.

We hope you will join all at Hutchesons’ in congratulating her on this achievement.
