Nine pupils. One Country. And a world to save.

The Munch Bunch

MUNCH, the Model United Nations conference was held at Cheadle Hulme School on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October, Ansley Clark of S5 reports:

With the majority of us attending our second Model United Nations conference, expectations were high. This time we ventured (slightly) further afield to Cheadle Hulme School in Manchester. As the delegation representing Mexico, we have spent the last four weeks researching and preparing this diverse country.  After arriving in Manchester, we immediately embraced our new-found culture by going for a delicious Mexican meal.  This provided food for thought as we discussed our best strategies as a delegation.

Model United Nations conference 3The conference began on the Saturday morning with delegates dividing into their different committees, ranging from Human Rights to Disarmament.  Once in our committees, debating got into full flow covering issues including the rights of prisoners, euthanasia and overpopulation.  Representing Mexico gave us an insight into another country’s stance on many topical issues that are so important today.  Over the weekend, our Hutchie delegates made many valid ‘Points of Information’ and used their debating skills to gain support of other countries and, importantly, form alliances.  Two pupils, Haris Haseeb, representing the Youth committee and Kate Cameron, representing the Human Rights committee received special Commendations.

All in all this was a great experience enjoyed by all and we are now looking forward to our next conference at George Watson’s College in March!
