Mr Forbes Cone and Mr Jonathan Vogels, teachers from Colorado Academy, a leading independent school in Denver, recently visited Hutchesons' to discuss proposals for setting up an exchange programme between the two schools.
Their trip follows an initial visit to Denver by Depute Rector Jim McDougall last March, who came away very impressed by the school and the potential for educational links. Discussions have focused on such topics as outdoor education, renewable energy and comparative politics.
Mr McDougall and Mr Vogels, who is Vice Principal at Colorado Academy, have agreed to develop some specific proposals for implementation in 2012, and beyond.
Depute Rector Jim McDougall commented:
"We were delighted to show Forbes and Jon around our school and City. We feel our schools have a lot to offer each other. Our initial aim is to start with very small numbers, taking part in a reciprocal exchange, and build it from there. In the meanwhile we shall explore the potential by establishing regular contact between students at our schools, using e-communication"
Colorado Academy is located on a campus at the edge of Denver, and is dedicated to providing a" dynamic liberal arts and sciences program that challenges students ethically, academically, artistically and athletically."
