The Junior Duke is an Award scheme being run at Hutchesons’ Grammar School for children in primary 4-7.
The patron for the scheme is Gordon Bulloch, a former pupil of Hutchesons’ who played in the Rugby World Cup of 2003 and later captained Scotland and the British Lions. He is proud to be associated with the scheme and supports the aims of promoting self-motivation and developing key life skills.
The scheme inspires pupils to challenge themselves to achieve their goals and encourages self motivation. There are four levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. As part of the Gold level, pupils are challenged to fix a puncture. The sample tyre is now covered in patches, but the air is staying in!
As a reward for all that hard work completion of any of the four levels will result in a bonus point for the challenger’s House. Children will also have a certificate and a badge awarded at assembly in front of the whole school.
The Junior Duke booklets were distributed at the start of October and there has already been a great response from some of the primary. Suhit Amin, above, from P6M could be the first to complete the whole Junior Duke, as he only has one component left to do.
