A Shore thing

P5 Coast Visit 2

Primary Five have been working hard on their topic of ‘Coasts’ and recently took a trip to Lunderston Bay near Gourock to take a closer look at the shoreline.

P5 Coast Visit 1On the shore Iain McDermott and Mairi Macrae from Hutchesons’ S6 led the session and explained coastal features such as; sea walls, erratic boulders, raised beach, storm beach, hard rock, soft rock, salt marsh and bay.

Stephanie Kerr and Douglas Oates also from S6 followed this with a very informative session about the creatures and plants living near the shore. They helped the children to use a key to discover the identity of the different seaweeds and shells found in the environment.

Afterwards, pupils had a scavenger hunt and solved some very tricky clues to find 10 different items on the beach. Even though it was pouring spirits were not dampened and a great day was had by all.

P5B and 5M also took the coastal discovery trip with Catriona Reid and Hannah Todd as their 6th years.
