Primary Six went to Scotland Street School Museum recently as part of their topic on Victorian Children.
The museum building, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, was a functional school until 1979 but it now tells the story of education in Scotland over a hundred years, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century.
Swapping their jotters for slates and jumpers for waistcoats and pinafores P6 got a chance to experience a piece of history when the clock was turned back to 1887 and they were taught a typical class from a ‘Victorian’ teacher.
The visit made a great impression and provided a unique opportunity for the children to learn about how different the learning environment and teaching styles were in those days.
