Here Hutchesons' teacher Miss Ross shares how S3 pupils are contributing to a process to benefit local charities:
S3 pupils are currently taking part in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative during form time, a unique programme that combines in-class learning with hands-on experience.

In groups, they have identified and researched a grassroots charity in their community in need of funding. Pupils have arranged meetings or visits to their chosen charities with an aim of understanding firsthand the differences being made in the community.
Pupils are then required to create a business case demonstrating how a grant to that charity would impact the organisation or program, then deliver presentations to a school appointed panel of impartial judges.
The group who deliver the most compelling case receive a £3,000 grant for the charity on whose behalf they advocated.
The students are the ones who become the powerful agents of social change.
