Calum Wins National Debate

Talking About the Integrated Circuit

Sixth-year pupil Calum Macdonald beat out competition from across the UK to win the national final of the Historical Association’s ‘Great Debate’. Having won the Scottish final, Calum met the other 15 finalists on 8 March at University College London. They each made the case for their choice of the most important scientific advance of the 20th century, with Calum choosing to talk about the integrated circuit.

Calum has been offered a place to study Law at Downing College, University of Cambridge and he will also be the Pomona-Downing Scholar for the 2008-2009 academic year, spending the year at Pomona College, California, before returning to Cambridge.
