Lyle Kennedy (C1982) has been awarded the Gold Medal at the Royal National Mod solo singing competition. Lyle won the Mr and Mrs Archibald Macdonald Memorial Trophy Oran Mor qualifying competition before taking the top award.
The Royal National Mod is Scotland's principle festival celebrating the country's Gaelic linguistic and cultural heritage. It provides opportunities for people of all ages to perform across a range of competitive disciplines including Gaelic Music and Song, Highland Dancing, Instrumental, Drama, Sport and Literature.
Lyle began to learn Gaelic in 1993 when he was working in Edinburgh. He sang in his first Gold Medal final in 2002 and this was his sixth attempt to land the top prize.
