Swinging Sixties

TwistKingarth Street stepped back in time in November as Primary 7 relived the ‘Swinging Sixties'. Pupils and teachers transformed themselves into celebrities from that decade, coming to school dressed as their alter-egos. Each pupil gave a talk about his or her chosen star and some even performed songs and dances for their classmates' entertainment.

A whole host of personalities turned up, including Grace Kelly, Neil Armstrong, Henry Cooper, Audrey Hepburn and Fidel Castro to name a few.

TwistPart of the celebration of the 1960s was the annual Twist-Off' championship, which had the infant hall turned into a mass of superstars dancing the twist. "The competition was fierce," says P7 teacher David Drysdale, "but after an exhausting contest, Che Guevara (Angus Mapplebeck) and Mary Quant (Claire McDermott) were declared the 2008 champions"
