Around the World in 40 Periods

World Club 4

Pupils in S1 and S2 are immersing themselves in the culture of other countries, without increasing their carbon footprints. With the help of Modern Studies teacher Clare Smith, History teacher Adele Page and pupil Hannah Newton [S6], the pupils decide which country they would like to look at and what aspects of that culture they are most interested in.

Sweet Noodles with Omelette! The first country in the spotlight this session was the United Arab Emirates. "We spent a few weeks looking at aspects such as schools, geography and architecture," says Miss Page, "and then finished off by looking at food and cooking a UAE favourite - sweet noodles with an omelette!"

World Club 7The pupils' work is displayed on the World Club notice board in the Modern Studies Corridor.

The next country on the list is Australia.  The four pupils currently visiting Hutchesons' from Goulburn Valley Grammar near Melbourne, have already spoken to the group about life in Australia and the pupils plied the Australians with questions. They also plan to see the film ‘Australia'.
