Lucy Downie (C2000) graduated with a BSc Honours in Zoology from Glasgow University, where she spent much of her time rowing and sailing. She sailed competitively for the University team and also took part in the Student Yachting World Championships in France. Rowing was her number one sport, however, and she rowed for the Scotland Team in 2004 and 2005 and in the British Universities Team in 2005, and obtaining winning titles at many events including the European Universities Championships, National Championships, and Henley Royal Regatta.
Lucy is running the Barcelona Marathon on 1 March 2009, raising money for Maggie's Centre in Glasgow, where her mother, Wendy Downie, receives support.
Lucy now works as a freelance outdoor instructor, mainly in the Lake District with school childen, and also leading overseas expeditions and outdoor activities with deprived inner city young people of Glasgow.
