Head of Drama Valerie Alderson recently went to Edinburgh to see Drew Millar, known at Hutchesons' as Andy Adam (C2005), in the professional touring production of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Drew graduated from the London School of Musical Theatre and joined the UK tour of Joseph straight from the cast of The Thursford Christmas Spectacular. Theatre credits while training include: Jack in Into the Woods (Bridewell Theatre); Steward in The Fall and Rise of Lenny Smallman (Arts Theatre); Ferdinand in The Tempest (LSMT Studios); Frank in workshop of Merrily We Role Along (director, Roger Haines); Sailor in Les Misérables workshop (director, Ken Caswell). Drew has also performed extensively as a choral singer with the National Youth Choir of Scotland. He was awarded the BBC Fame Academy Bursary in 2007 and is currently working on his debut solo album, due for release in 2010.
"Drew - or Andy as we knew him- was a regular member of the cast of school shows," says Valerie, "culminating in a outstanding performance as Marius in Les Misérables in 2005. Not only was he a committed member of the Drama Department's extra-curricular activities, he also took a National Certificate course to gain more experience on stage -- laying the groundwork for the career onto which he has now embarked."
