Heartstart Training begins for Primary Pupils

Primary HeartstartAfter securing a grant from the British Heart Foundation, two enterprising S6 pupils have started implementing their Heartstart UK programme to provide emergency life support training to primary pupils.

All the children in Primary 2 and in Mrs Smart's Primary 5 class have started receiving Heartstart training from S6 pupils Jenny Hansell and Lisa Aitken, who are working with three members of trained staff.

Primary HeartstartThe children in Primary 2 are learning how to look after the conscious casualty and summon help and the children in Primary 5 are learning also how to look after the unconscious casualty and how to help someone if they are choking.

"The children have shown a great interest in learning these important life skills," says Primary Matron Evelyn Phillips, "and we hope to involve many more children next year."
