Politics for Pupils

S3 Group in European ParliamentAlthough they're too young to vote in the European Elections on 4 June, pupils from Hutchesons' Grammar School started their research by visiting the European Parliament.

"We took S3 pupils who have been studying the EU to the European Parliament in Brussels," says Clare Smith, Modern Studies teacher. "The trip was organised by David Martin MEP who provided pupils with the opportunity to ask questions of himself and various colleagues, including Elspeth Attwooll MEP. 

Pupils also toured the Parliament and visited the debating chamber.  During their stay in Belgium they visited the Atomium in Brussels and the historic city of Bruges.

David Martin, Labour MEP, is Scotland's most senior European Member of Parliament. Elspeth Atwooll, Liberal Democrat MEP for Scotland is not standing for re-election on 4 June.
