The Girls - Fiona Bruce (S6), Heather Lang (S4), Paige Denholm, Iona Campbell (S2) and Nicola Lowrey (S6) - had a real battle in the semi-final against last year's winners, Dunblane. They rose to the challenge, winning 4-2, and then played St George's Tennis Academy in the final. Despite a brave fight, Hutchesons' lost the final 2-4.
The Scottish knockout championship started in September 2008 and involves teams of four pupils, each playing singles and doubles.
"It was an outstanding day for the School Tennis teams, as all nine of our players went home with a silver medal," says PE teacher Sheila Lang. "This is an excellent achievement, and credit for this goes entirely to the players themselves."
Craigholme Tennis Tournament
A team from Hutchesons' was invited to play in the Craigholme invitation tennis tournament on 13 June. Anna Hastie (Captain, S6) and Karen Leslie (S5) in the senior category, Sarah Thomson and Tamsin Russell (both S3) in the intermediate category, Paige Denholm and Iona Campbell (both S2) in the junior category and Flora Walker (P7) and Charlotte Mason (P6), primary players, won the trophy for winning the most games.
Anna and Karen were runners up in their section. Paige and Iona, and Flora and Charlotte all won their respective age groups, and as a result of all eight girls' performances, Hutchesons' was awarded the top trophy.
