S4 Complete their Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award Expedition

DoE Silver Jun 2009 3The 45 fourth-year pupils in Dr Smith's Silver B group successfully completed their final assessed expedition assisted by Active Outdoor Pursuits, based at Craigower Lodge Outdoor Centre, Newtonmore, in June 2009. To reach this point they had completed training weekends throughout the year, enabling them to carry out their expeditions competently on their own, with only remote supervision. They ventured into remote areas in the Highlands of Scotland on sea-kayaks, Canadian canoes, mountain bikes and on foot.

DoE Silver Jun 2009Silver B were fortunate to experience mostly gloriously sunny dry weather conditions, according to Dr Smith. The sea-kayakers started their expeditions down Loch Shiel out to the coast and across the sound of Arisaig. The canoes were travelling from Fort William to Fort Augustus up the Caledonian canal. The cyclists were located in the Caingorms National Park starting at Glenmore Forest and the walkers were in the North West of Scotland, groups either starting or finishing their journey in Ullapool.
