A weekend away before the beginning of term was right on target for 16 pupils from Scripture Union at Hutchesons', who spent the last weekend of the holidays at Teen Ranch in Perthshire. The setting was a beautiful Georgian house which has been converted into a Wild West ranch, the activities based around 'Cowboys and Indians', such as horse-riding, air-rifle shooting, archery and canoeing. Mr Colin Macleod, the ICT teacher who leads SU, said 'The pupils and staff launched themselves into the activities with enthusiasm and the discovery of mud at the bottom of the canoe pond led to a memorable battle.'
The Rev Paul Jupp from Pollokshields UR Church, based in Hutchesons' Fotheringay Centre, supported and encouraged the pupils, says Mr McLeod. 'He also showed that he has an eye for the target with a bow and arrow! The SU group enjoyed Houseparties for the past 10 years and has been a great opportunity for pupils to get to know one another better as well as explore the Christian faith through teaching sessions.
