Six pupils in S2 spent a recent weekend improving their Bridge skills.
"From personal experience, the Loughborough Junior Teach-In was always a highlight of the Bridge year," says Ronald Gaffin (C2002), who accompanied the pupils, "so it was with great pleasure that we revived the annual outing to a recognised centre of excellence for junior bridge."
Six of the current S2 pupils - Yash Singh, David MacCallum, Calum Stout, David Lunardi, Scott Griffiths and Kyle Stevenson - made the trip south at the end of August, along with Gaffin and Bridge tutor Pat McCash, for an enjoyable and educational weekend.
According to Gaffin, they learned a great deal over the course of the weekend and have gained a new appreciation for the social aspect of Bridge! They enjoyed the varied programme, especially the closing tournament, which has been won by Hutchesons' pupils on three occasions in the past (although not this year, sadly), but a team of Hutchesons' pupils (Calum Stout, David Lunardi, Scott Griffiths and Kyle Stevenson) won the prize in their category.
John Di Mambro, teacher in charge of Bridge, says he is delighted to see Ronald giving back so much to the place where he himself learned to play Bridge and which saw him rising to be one of the most talented young players in Scotland.
Ronald Gaffin has represented Scotland at the Junior and Under-28 Level in Bridge Championships throughout the world, including in New York and Beijing.
