Three Hutchesons' pupils were awarded medals in the 2009 Glasgow Museums Annual Art Competition at a ceremony at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on 1 October.
Ashley Neilson, S2, and Holly Lau, S4, both received Gold medals for their work in the S1-S3 category, and Alistair Currie, S2, won a Silver medal in the same class.
Now in its 105th year, the competition encourages pupils from schools across Glasgow and beyond to produce art work from observation in any of Glasgow's museums. More than 50 Hutchie pupils visited Kelvingrove in June and produced high quality work, currently on display in the art department.
The prizewinners' artwork will feature in an exhibition at Scotland Street School Museum which runs from 8 October-8 November 2009.
In other Art news at Hutchesons', S6 pupils on the Advanced Higher and Portfolio courses, accompanied by Mr McQueen and Miss Lovell visited the Glasgow Museums' Resource Centre in Nitshill. In addition to looking at countless artefacts and exhibits belonging to Glasgow's Museums, pupils were privileged to see original paintings from the extensive archive including ‘The Patriots,' by Peter Howson,
photographs by the Brazilian documentary photographer Sebastiao Salgado, portraits by David Hockney, ‘The Sea,' by Joan Eardley and even a couple of original Raeburns.
