The school photography club had several events in late October, says Cate Hamilton, who runs the club. "We were visited on Monday lunchtime by Steve McQueen, local artist and photographer, who talked to the group about what inspires him to take his photos and how he ‘sees' the world through his camera.
"This was followed by a visit on Monday afternoon to the newly opened Street Level Photoworks gallery in Trongate 103 where we looked at the John ‘Hoppy' Hopkins exhibition and discussed cultural events that influenced his photography during the 1960s.
"On Friday, Glasgow-based photographer and flickr legend Tommy Ga Ken Wan came to speak to club members about his recent project in Rotterdam. He showed us how he edits his photos and talked about which post-production methods he uses most, as well as what inspired him to get into photography.
Mrs Hamilton hopes that these events will help pupils to see how photography connects many of their subjects, such as Modern Studies, Art and Geography, while also inspiring them to develop their own ways of ‘seeing' the world through their work.
