Sixty budding mathematicians from Primary 7 and Secondary 1 were inspired by Dr Vinay Kathotia in a Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclass in December. They took part in activities that wove together science, mathematics, art and design.
Dr Kathotia is Clothworkers' Fellow in Mathematics at the Royal Institution, which supports primary and secondary mathematics masterclasses across the UK. Hutchesons' is currently the only school in Scotland to be invited to be a host for further Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclasses on Saturday mornings next term. These will be open to pupils from local schools.
In further Maths news, Dr Simon Singh, author of Bad Science, The Code Book, Big Bang and Fermat's Last Theorem, will address senior pupils on Tuesday 9 February. No fewer than four eminent guest lecturers will take part in a day of scientific enrichment and enlightenment for pupils from Hutchesons' and from schools from in and around Glasgow .
